A Roof Over Our Heads

By | Blog

Think back when you were in school, what did your classroom look like? It probably had 4 walls and roof. Imagine having to study in a classroom with no roof. The 2012 students of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Rosarito, Mexico do not have to imagine, this is their reality. Yet, they did not let that interfere with their studies. A surprise is waiting for the students upon their return to school from summer break; they will have a roof over their heads. Thanks to Serving Hands International, a portable classroom was donated to the school on June 18, 2012. Profe Frausto stated, “my students will not have to worry about the weather, outside noise and will have less distractions now.” The school is extremely grateful to Serving Hands International for this donation. Thanks to the support of A-1 Self Storage and generous donors like you this was made possible.

Apple iPad for Project Baseco in Manila, Philippines

By | Blog

In March of 2012 SHI announced that our partners Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament sent their fearless leader, Sister Ana Rodriguez to start a mission in Baseco Manila, Philippines. Since March 2012, Sister Ana has been busy getting to know the community of Baseco, learning to speak Tagalog and setting up shop to aid the poorest of the poor in Baseco. Sister Ana found herself in a “pickle” when it came to setting up the internet and phone. Baseco is a rural town, which is still developing. The town is not equipped with modern technology. Sister Ana submitted a request to SHI for an Apple iPad, after review we were able to grant her request with all the trimmings! We look forward to “Face time” with Sister Ana and are happy she is able to stay connected. Congrats to Sister Ana and Project Baseco. “Thankyou to all who support SHI. Without your support we would not be able to do the work we do”. “Ingat” (which means take care in Tagalog) said Sister Ana Rodriguez. “Congratulations Mission Baseco on behalf of our premier sponsor A-1 Self Storage”.

On a bright sunny day in May 2012, the Santa Clausen Ministry traveled to San Felipe Baja California Mexico to spread the Gospel through their “Christmas Program”. SCM volunteers, Mike and Sandra Clausen sought partnership with Serving Hands International to bring Christmas Blessings to families located in the Baja Community. The Santa Clausen Ministry travels to Mexico bringing food, toys, clothing and the Gospel to their community. SCM reported their annual Christmas Distribution served over 1,500 people. “Everything we do is free, nothing is ever sold. We pass on 100% of all that is given to us” said Mike Clausen of “The Santa Clausen Ministry”. The SCM is already planning next year’s event! These partnerships are made possible by our sponsor A-1 Storage. Thank you to A-1 Storage and donors like you!

The Big Surprise

By | Blog

The partnership of Serving Hands International and San Francisco Hospital, located in Tijuana, Baja California began in 2004. In April of 2012, San Francisco Hospital was approved for a Serving Hands grant to purchase 4 wheelchairs for individuals with disabilities. One of the recipients was Ramiro Ornelas. Mr.Ornelas has suffered from illness since childhood when he developed Polio. In order to achieve mobility, Mr.Ornelas had constructed his own wheelchair that was built from a discarded shopping cart. On May 23, 2012 Sister Leonarda, a hospital worker, gave Ramiro exciting news! He would soon be given a vital piece of equipment that would aid his everyday life. “When Mr. Ornelas saw his wheelchair, you noticed an overwhelming joy on his face,” said Sister Leonarda. He’d been thinking about this day for a long time, but never thought his dream of owning a real wheelchair would come true. San Francisco Hospital has already served 1,422 people in their community this year, thanks to the support of Servings Hands International and A-1 Self Storage.
