It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Barbara Caster’s passing on August 20, 2018. Our sadness is for ourselves as we will miss her dearly each and every day. We rejoice in knowing that she is in Heaven with our Lord. Our greatest source of peace is knowing that she is in God’s loving embrace and reunited with her beloved family members who were there to welcome her to God’s kingdom.

Barbara Claire Caster (Culver) was born on November 23, 1931 in New Jersey. As a young woman she moved to Los Angeles where she met Terrence Robert Caster. On August 1, 1953 they married and she became Barbara Caster. Terry and Barbara’s union spanned more than 65 years. Their love for each other was clear to all who were lucky enough to see it up close. Together they raised 5 sons and 3 daughters while building a family business and developing a charity, Serving Hands International, along with many other philanthropic causes.

Barbara worked alongside her husband in the family business. She and her husband founded Caster Family Enterprises and A1 Self Storage which now has more than 50 locations throughout the state of California. Barbara was an accountant and administrator. By God’s grace, she managed to raise a large family of children and support the family business and her husband all while caring for many others including extended family members as well as strangers. Her light shined brightly to all who encountered her. She was a peaceful, graceful and calming presence in even the harshest of circumstances. She was smart, hardworking and so caring. She had a sweet, sweet spirit that was evident to anyone she met.

Barbara’s legacy goes far beyond a successful family business and charitable works far too numerous to list. Her children; Terry Van, Jeff, Craig, Mechele, Brian, Jill, Barbi and Dan went on to create their own loving families that include 40 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and more on the way! Barbara’s greatest source of joy and pride was in her family.

She loved the church and she loved the Lord. Her unending faith gave her the strength to live her very best life in joy, in service and in grace. In the end Barbara was surrounded by her family, surrounded by prayer and song and comforted by her loving husband. She was able to see all the fruits of her labor in the loving faces of her family members. She held babies and reminisced about family stories and history during her final days.

Barbara served and will always serve as an example of a strong, loving woman who used her time on this earth well. She bettered the lives not only of her own family but of so many others. There are not words to truly convey the absence we feel upon her passing. We are so grateful to know she is in heaven rejoicing and watching over us all. She was an angel her whole life while she was with us and we know the angels were rejoicing with God when she arrived in heaven. She will forever be with us in spirit. For that we are grateful.
