We are All Equal

By | Blog

“We are all equal” stated Adalid Murgia, founder of “Carita de Dios” (God’s Face), a non-profit organization founded five years ago in Tijuana, Mexico to serve children in the community with special needs ranging from mild to severe. Adalid Murgia founded the center which was started with only one child, her son Genaro. Today 60 children are lovingly cared for at the center. In February 2012 Serving Hands International “SHI” donated 4 portable buildings to Carita de Dios in order to accommodate this organization’s growing needs. Carita de Dios moved into their new home in June 2012. The new home has allowed them to better serve all of the children in their care. On July 10, 2012 Serving Hands International welcomed Carita de Dios into its partnership program. They became the 45th partner in the bi-weekly food distribution program. “These last few months have been amazing and now I will be able to feed the kids daily” stated Adalid Murgia. Provisions ready for Distribution!

By | Blog

It all started over 30 years ago, when Serving Hands International’s (SHI) founders, Terrence and Barbara Caster, saw a news report of children rummaging through trash for food in Tijuana B.C. Mexico. The Casters knew they had to do something. They recruited family and friends for monetary support and donations of food, packed up their truck and traveled from San Diego to Tijuana to feed the poor. Their efforts have come a long way. Presently, SHI Partners serve over 20,000 poor families with fresh fruit, vegetables, rice, beans and other food staples on a bi-weekly basis. SHI Partners conduct site visits with the families receiving the food. “Most of the families receiving the provisions are families who migrate to Tijuana in hopes of finding a stable job to support their family. There are also many abandoned elderly and single mothers trying to make ends meet. These provisions help meet those needs.” Said Sister Milagros of Convento San Charbel. The food donations provided are made possible by our sponsor A-1 Self Storage. Thank you to A-1 Self Storage and donors like you!

The Big Gift

By | Blog

On Monday, June 18, 2012 the Sister’s Samaritanas in Rosarito, Mexico each had a shocked look on their face followed by a great big smile. The sisters could not hide their joy as they received the largest portable building ever donated by Serving Hands International “SHI”. This big gift measures 60 by 60 feet. The building will be used for spiritual retreats, religious studies & community events. In the past all such activities were held outdoors, leaving attendees exposed to the elements. Many times there were interruptions of events due to unexpected storms. “I remember once,” stated Sister Galvan, “when a storm came and everyone was running to get their belongings to a dry place.” The sisters are immensely appreciative for such a big gift. Thanks to this donation from Serving Hands International the SisterSamaritanas and the community of Rosarito, Mexico will now benefit from this portable building for years to come.Such gifting was made possible thanks to the support of A-1 Self Storage and generous donors like you.
